Responsibilities
Liaise with and advocate for CFA within the following: Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR),
Office of Philanthropy, Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the Graduate School
Create and manage college level internal funding programs for faculty and students
Mentor faculty in funding mechanisms/strategies internal and external to the university system
Represent CFA on university wide meetings, committees and panels: Research Advisory Group, CURATE
committee, ADR Advisory Board, ADR Grant Administration, Graduate School Dean and Associate
Deans Meeting, UKinSpire Review Panel, Office of Undergraduate Research meetings (OUR), Ignite
Research Collaboration (IRC) Review Panel and others as needed
Chair the College of Fine Arts Research Award Review Committee
Report back to CFA about university level research initiatives and programs
Accomplishments
Advocate with OUR towards greater funding options for students in artistic research/creative activities
(options increased from five to sixteen, including supplies, royalties, licensing, recording, etc.)
Work with the Office of Philanthropy, OVPR and individual faculty members to increase internal and
external grant submissions and awards (2022-2023 faculty were awarded fifteen UK internal
grants up from four the year before, for a total of $367,361. of additional funds coming into CFA)
Manage CFA research funding programs and their budgets- 2022-2023 $155,148. 2023-2024 $105, 210.
Create new Faculty Research Support Programs for 2023-2024 with new application process, clearly
articulated fiscal policies, and new scorecards for larger awards determined by the CFA Research
Award Review Committee
Chair the CFA Research Award Review Committee, maintain membership from all units, organize
applications for review, facilitate meetings
Develop and maintain a new section of the Dean’s Newsletter focused on mentorship about research
Mentor individual faculty in grant writing, external and internal funding sources, networking within UK,etc.
Work with CFA’s Integrated Business Unit to inform CFA faculty about fiscal policies and procedures
Review new faculty’s Research Plans for the use of Assistant Professor Research Funds (Start-Up funds)

A-S 101 Creativity Practices in Art Studio, 1cr
This seminar course for incoming Art Studio and Art Education majors is designed to develop creative strategies and orient students to the Department and University. Through discussion, in-class exercises, and out-of-class assignments, students will gain knowledge of arts-related resources and programming at UK and in the local community. Art Studio and Art Education Majors only; No prerequisites.
A-S 102 Two-Dimensional Surface, 3cr
A broad, cross-disciplinary studio course exploring design elements and principles as the basic means of organizing two-dimensional space. Each student develops the ability to form strategies, concepts and ideas to enhance creativity and articulate personal expression. No prerequisites.
A-S 102 Visual Exploration I, 3cr
Introductory studio experience in two-dimensional representation and abstraction using a variety of basic drawing materials and processes. Six studio hours per week.
A-S 103 Three-Dimensional Form, 3cr
A broad, cross-disciplinary studio course exploring the elements and principles of designing in the round. Basic concepts involving three-dimensional design in visual art will be explored through discussion and the creation of spatial forms. Special emphasis will be given to the creative process in problem solving.
A-S 201 Art Studio Core Seminar, 1cr
This course is designed to assist pre-major students in developing the practical skills needed to create a successful, professional presentation of their work. The course will prepare students for the portfolio review required for entry into the Department’s major programs, emphasizing written, oral, and visual presentation skills. Prerequisite: A-S 200; Prereq: A-S 200, A-S 215; prereq or concurrent: A-S 101; or consent of instructor
A-S 390 Special Topics: Performance Art, 3 cr.
Performance Art is a course open to students from many/any backgrounds and skill sets. This class covers a broad history of this exciting practice for context and open-ended prompts from which students will create and perform new work. A variety of subjects will be explored in workshop format and students will apply a more focused approach for a few of these projects. Some of the following topics may be covered: performance for the camera, monologue, public intervention, food, installation, movement/dance, expanded spoken word, integration of sound, costume, etc. There are no pre-requisites for this course, but a curious mind and a willingness to perform in/as art are necessary.

Supervised individual work in Art Studio. A learning contract will be submitted both to the department and the office of the dean at the time of registration. May be repeated to a maximum of nine credits.

Advanced studio investigation of art forms, processes, and topics not specially treated in the regular curriculum. May be repeated to a maximum of nine credits. Studio, three hours per week per credit.
A-S 799 M.F.A. Studio Thesis Project, 6cr
Independent research and preparation for the M.F.A. thesis exhibition. For the student working in a
highly technical medium or process, the preparation of a correlated written thesis under close
guidance will be the outcome. The student will be expected to know the standard forms for
photographic records and the preparation of a professional portfolio.
UK 101 Academic Orientation 1cr.
This course is designed to assist undergraduates in adjusting to the academic life of the University. Through lectures, discussions, exercises, and out-of-class assignments, UK 101 helps first-year students: articulate the purpose and nature of a college education at a research university; articulate UK’s expectations of its students; gain an appreciation of the University’s mission, history, and traditions; develop skills for achieving academic success such as study strategies and library research skills; increase awareness and use of campus resources; reflect on personal and social issues that first-year students often face in a college environment; become involved in the total life of the University; and form beneficial relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

TA workshops and mentoring sessions for Art Studio 2009- 2021
Meetings occur many times a semester and are based on concerns of pedagogy. Topics discussed range from time-management to curriculum development and in this transition to UKCore we have been focused on topics like teaching creativity while investigating materials and methods. Workshops on material and methods are interspersed.
Studio visits with MFA and BFA students at their request and regular meetings with BFA students on whose
committees I serve.
